What do the latest global statistics say about AIDS and how many people are infected with this disease and what is the death rate of these people?

According to Xinhua, in this article, facts about AIDS in 2015 are compiled and presented based on information published by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Joint Program on AIDS (UNAIDS). As follows:

1- Worldwide, about 36 million and 900 thousand people, including 2 million and 600 thousand children, live with the AIDS virus.

2- In 2014, about two million people were infected with this virus.

3- About 34 million people in the world have died due to HIV or AIDS, and 1,200,000 of these deaths occurred in 2014.

4- During the last 15 years, the death rate due to AIDS among teenagers has tripled.

5- AIDS is the first cause of death of adolescents in Africa and the second cause of death of this age group in the world.

6- In the region of Black Africa, where the highest prevalence rate of AIDS is observed, among people aged 15 to 19, seven out of every 10 new cases of this virus are girls.

7- At the beginning of 2015, 15 million people received antiretroviral treatment, which was one million people in 2001.

8- Despite wide access to HIV tests, only 51% of people with HIV are aware of their disease.

9- The global response to HIV has prevented 30 million new cases of HIV infection and nearly eight million deaths since 2000.

10- In 2015, Cuba was the first country to announce the eradication of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
